Highest Paid Athletes 2025

  • Canelo Alvarez will earn a guaranteed £175 million in 2025 from just two fights as part of a landmark four-fight, £302m ($400m) deal with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
  • His year kicks off with a bout against William Scull on Cinco de Mayo weekend, followed by a blockbuster superfight with Terence Crawford.
  • Canelo's earnings break down to £14.58m/month, £479.5k/day and £5.55/second, making him the highest-paid athlete in the world.
  • He leapfrogs Cristiano Ronaldo (£171m), Jon Rahm (£150m) and Oleksandr Usyk (£90.7m) to top the rich list, all of whom also have Saudi-backed deals.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will earn a guaranteed $200 million (£175m) this year from two fights thanks to a lucrative deal with Saudi Arabia.

The Mexican superstar has agreed to a four-fight deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund - worth a reported $400 million (£302m) - with a fight against William Scull scheduled for Cinco de Mayo weekend before a superfight with Terence Crawford.

With the remaining two fights to be completed in 2026, research from Prime Casino has determined that this guaranteed £175m makes Canelo the wealthiest sports star in the world.

Canelo’s incredible in-ring earnings for 2025

Cristiano Ronaldo was the closest challenger in the world, with the Portugal captain banking a whopping £171 million a year from Al-Nassr, meaning Saudi Arabia is once again footing the bill.

Golfing superstar Jon Rahm did not win a single tournament in 2024, but still managed to make a staggering £150m thanks to his partnership with LIV Golf. The 29-year-old Spaniard joined the Saudi-backed tour for a reported $350 million guarantee, half of which Forbes estimates he received up front.

Two undisputed heavyweight title fights with Tyson Fury meant that Oleksandr Usyk banked third spot on the list, as he collected £90.7m in 2024. The Ukrainian delivered two sensational performances in Saudi Arabia to topple the ‘Gypsy King’ not once, but twice.

Neymar endured a nightmare 2024 as he battled injury after injury, yet his profitable contract with Al-Hilal meant he certainly was not out of pocket. The Brazil talisman signed a six-month contract to boyhood club Santos after terminating his contract in January, with a fixed salary of more than  $500,000.

Additionally, he will receive 80% of the commercial deals the club secures during his stay, but his Saudi salary still puts him on the list for the year. The final name on the list is Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback.

Prescott signed a contract extension for a reported four years and $240 million (£181m), with a record $80 million (£60.4m) signing bonus and a record average annual value of $60 million (£45m). He is due to make $86.3 million (65.3m) on the field during the 2024 league year.
